Venmo Scam Text, Call, PIN Code and Press 1

Scammers are calling potential victims from 855 or 833 telephone numbers using fake Venmo automated calls, claiming an unknown device had attempted to access their Venmo accounts or if they recognize a recent Venmo debit from their accounts. The calls ask potential victims to press 1 and tell them a PIN code will be texted to them, which they should enter. But, if the PIN code is entered or given to the scammers, they will gain access to and take over their potential victims' Venmo accounts. The scammers will then be able to fraudulently transfer money from the compromised accounts to their accounts.

They called my wife from and 855 or 833 phone number, asked if she recognized a recent Venmo debit of 380.00. If not, for her to press 1. She pressed 1. (never engage with a phone call you did not initiate!) they then texted a code for her to enter. She entered the code and then they added their debit card to her account, transferred 900 of her money she had in Venmo to their card, took card off and have 900 of her
