Scammers are sending out fake census text messages like the one below from telephone number 07487602531, claiming the recipients have not completed their 2021 census form and will be fined £1000. The fake text contains a link to census.ons-appliant.co.uk, which is a phishing website that steals personal and financial information.
Census: We haven't received your form for Census 2021. You must complete this or you could be fined £1000. Please complete this here: hxxps:// census.ons-appliant.co.uk"
The website, census.ons-appliant.co.uk, is a fake and scam, and if you have received text messages with a link to it, just ignore and delete them. The legitimate census website is located at https://census.gov.uk/.
