Klook Travel PayPal Payment Scam

My friend and I were caught by this scam. She sent money to me and then got this Klook Travel response. Fortunately, she cancelled the payment directly through the PayPal site when she got the message, rather than through the email. Thank you to this OnlineThreatAlerts site, because now I understand what happened. PayPal was completely unhelpful. I think their customer service team is not properly trained to manage potential fraud related to payments that are between individuals, rather than through a business. If not for this article, I would have still been in the dark about what was going on.

I recieved this e-mail as well, similar to the ones posted here. The things that caught my eye that put up red flags are the following:

1. The From: and To:

• The e-mail says from

service@paypal.com to customer@live.com

- If you click on the

service@paypal.com to expand it, you

will see that the email is connected to

duars0_memekasemnih.35471@...PayPal

service e-mails (in my experience) don't

come attached to other e-mails.

- PayPal will send e-mails to YOU. It

literally says..To: You followed by YOUR

e-mail.

2. The e-mail (for me anyway) says Receipt number in smaller font, instead of Transaction ID with big numbers.

I hope this helps you spot the scams and as always never click a link your not sure about and log in directly to your PayPal or other accounts to verify any transactions. Stay safe and vigilant. Happy holidays!
