The website will mislead potential victims into clicking on the "Continue" without reading the fine print, thinking they are upgrading WhatsApp or installing an Add-on. But, what they are actually doing is signing up for a premium Social Networking service and agreeing to pay R7 (South African dollar) per day.

The charges or fees will show up on the victims’ monthly mobile bills.

If you are a victim of the WhatsApp scam, please report it to your mobile service provider immediately.

Never click on a link or button to update your WhatsApp. WhatsApp will update itself automatically on most or all devices. But, if you want to update it manually, you may follow the instructions below:

• Go to Options
• Go to Settings
• Go to About
• Go to Options again
• Click Check for upgrade
